Lead Software Engineer - PX4 Flight Control Systems
We are seeking a Lead Software Engineer to lead the development of advanced Flight Controller platforms for autonomous UAV systems. This is a hands-on technical leadership role focused on autopilot software, embedded systems, real-time performance, system integration, and software delivery. You will work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams to develop reliable, secure, and production-ready flight control solutions.
Role Summary: Lead the team and development of the software that directly controls, stabilises, and flies autonomous UAV platforms.
Responsibilities
- Own the design, architecture, and development of Flight Controller software for autonomous UAV systems.
- Lead PX4-based software development, integration, validation, and release activities.
- Develop and optimize real-time embedded software for safety-critical applications.
- Integrate sensors, navigation systems, communication interfaces, and security features.
- Drive debugging, system bring-up, simulation, testing, and flight-validation activities.
- Collaborate with hardware, systems, security, manufacturing, and DevOps teams.
- Mentor engineers and lead technical decision-making across the Flight Controller domain.
Requirements
- Bachelors’ degree in Computer Science, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering (Master's/PhD preferred).
- 8+ years of experience in embedded software development; 5+ years in flight controller, autopilot, safety-critical avionics (UAV or drone technology).
- Strong experience developing embedded software using C/C++.
- Hands-on experience with Autopilot stack including PX4 (must-have), MAVLink and RTOS (NuttX) and embedded OS environments (ARM Cortex).
- Experience in software and hardware integration activities.
- Familiarity with software development best practices, source control, and CI/CD workflows.
- Experience using static code analysis and software security tools (e.g., Coverity, SonarQube, Black Duck) for code quality, security, and compliance verification.
- Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills.
