Across in-house and private practice, almost all lawyers nominated the type of work they do as a main factor contributing to their overall job satisfaction.
According to Robert Walters research, there are a number of key drivers for lawyers when it comes to their level of job satisfaction. These are provided in the article.
Our research indicates some interesting facts about lawyers as indicated below:
The largest proportion (27%) ranked the type of work they do as most important to their contentment and happiness.
On the contrary, when questioned about what makes them least happy in their role, the majority of respondents ranked little opportunity for career progression (28%) as the most the likely factor, followed by the people they work with (18%) and working within a company with a poor professional culture (17%).
The working environment, the people you work with and the quality of work produced being essential ingredients for a long and satisfying career
In addition to this, 53% of respondents highlighted cultural fit as being ‘extremely important’, with a further 43% maintaining that cultural fit was ‘reasonably important’ when searching for a new position. Of all respondents, only 1% indicated cultural fit as being unimportant.
“These results clearly indicate that lawyers are not simply motivated by large salaries and opportunities to make bigger bonuses. Here we can really see the working environment, the people you work with and the quality of work produced being essential ingredients for a long and satisfying career. If lawyers can find a fit that satisfies each of these, there is a much greater likelihood of retention,” says Kamran Habib, Manager at Robert Walters.
